Enlisted at Brisbane on the 23/02/1916 age 31 years. His address, Gayndah. He was a Widower with 3 children. His next of kin (NOK), Mother Mrs Mary Worland of NSW.
On enlistment he was 5ft 6, weighed 145 Lbs and stated his occupation as a Labourer and was working at Fernhill Farm, Gayndah. On the 27th October 1917 Joe Worland was awarded the Military Medal for “Bravery in the Field”. On the 5th November 1917 Joe was awarded the Bar to the Military Medal for a second act of outstanding bravery.
On the same day Joe received gunshot wounds to his back and buttocks. In 1918, His Military Medal was pinned to his oldest son’s chest (aged six years) at a public gathering in Gayndah by Alderman Warton. Descendants of Cpl Worland including his Grandson Mr Peter Worland often visit Gayndah to pay their respects.
