Enlisted at Gayndah, 24/10/1914 age 19 years. His address on enlistment Gayndah. His next of kin (NOK), Father, Dr P H Townley, Gayndah.
On enlistment he was 5ft 5, weighed 138 lbs and stated his occupation as a Cadet Surveyor. Unit embarked from Sydney, on 21/12/1914. He rose through the ranks from Private and became a Lieutenant in August 1916. Returned to Australia 15/05/1919.
