JOYCE, Horace Toovey

Enlisted at Brisbane on the 05/06/1916 age 20 years. His next of kin (NOK), Mother Mrs Adelaide Joyce of Reids Creek Gayndah. On enlistment he was 5ft 6, weighed 134 lbs. On the 09/06/1917 he was reported wounded and missing in action.

 

On the 29/12/1917 he was posted as being killed in action. A statement from Pte E Williams of the 52nd Bn. Reads “ I saw No.2678 Private Joyce H.T. 52nd Bn. at Sutton Veny about the end of December 1917 and he told me he was reported missing and when I got back to my Bn., I told them that I saw the above mentioned soldier in England, but they would not believe it, they said he was killed. About three weeks later, he joined up the Bn. himself and I asked if he was the man they were looking for and they said “Yes”.
