DEEM, James Livingston

Enlisted at Brisbane 08/11/1915 age 21 years. His next of kin (NOK), Father, Mr Wm Deem, Fern Hill Farm, Gayndah. On enlistment he was 5ft 4, weighed 138 lbs and stated his occupation as a Plumber at Gayndah.

 

He was wounded 04/10/1917 with gunshot wound to both legs and right arm. He returned to Australia for discharge as medically unfit. Descendants of the Deem family often visit Gayndah to pay their respects. The following information supplied by Mrs Karen McKechnie.

On return to Australia, he was admitted to Rosemount Military Hospital in Brisbane for ongoing treatment. James (Jim) Deem returned to the family farm at Gayndah before moving to Stanthorpe to take up orcharding with his younger brother, Walter.

 

Jim married Edith Lacey in 1923 and their daughter Val was born in 1929. Jim and Edith ran several retail businesses in Brisbane until Jim’s death.
