Enlisted in Brisbane 05/06/1942 age 20 years. His address on enlistment, Gayndah. His next of kin, Netta Sedgwick. He discharged 19/02/1946. The following information supplied by Mrs Margaret Farrell. Harry Sedgwick was the eldest son of Herbert and Dora Sedgwick.
He was born and raised on their farm at Norwood where Slack’s Hardwood timber mill is now located. Posted to 2/8 Bn Australian Infantry Battalion Involved with 2/8 Bn At Aitape (PNG) 12.11.44 DANMAP River operations Dec 44 to Feb 45 Advance on WEWAK and Prince Alexander Range Apr-Jul 1945 Capture of Mount SHIBURANGU (Aitape/WEWAK area) 27 June 1945.
It is understood that Harry did not return to Australia with the main body of 2/8 Bn which was disbanded 14/12/45 Harry later returned to Australia and was discharged 19 Feb 46. After discharge Harry trained as a carpenter which was his occupation along with farming until 1969 when he relocated to PNG for several years where he was employed as a store man in various locations. After his return to Australia, Harry worked as a spare parts interpreter with a heavy equipment supplier.
