Enlisted in Brisbane 31/07/1942 age 18 years. His address on enlistment, Gayndah. His next of kin, Father, Mr Archibald Kirk. He stated his occupation as Bank Clerk.
He discharged 06/06/1946. Ted flew the Hawker Typhoon aircraft with 198 Squadron, conducting ground attack and anti-shipping strikes in Holland and North Germany After VE Day Pilot Officer Kirk was posted to 451 and 452 squadrons flying the MK 18 Spitfire.
These Squadrons formed part of the Occupying Forces in Berlin. He discharged 06/06/1946. His military awards were Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, Australian Service Medal 1939-45. His civilian awards were Australian Fire Service Medal and the Medal of the Order Australia.
After discharge Ted became a Grazier in Gayndah and served on the Gayndah Shire Council for 33 years. On the 20/08/1949 he married Miss Grace Carmichael. On the 19/11/2016 the Gayndah Aerodrome was officially named Ted Kirk Field Gayndah Aerodrome.
