Elisted at Brisbane 18/08/1916 age 29 years. His next of kin (NOK), Mother Mrs Mary Sedgwick Reids Creek, Gayndah. His Address, Reids Creek. On enlistment he was 5ft 7, weighed 138 lbs and stated his occupation as a Farmer. He left Australia for service overseas.
On the 08/04/1919 he married Miss Dora Blamire of Kendal. He returned to Australia and discharged 1919. Family history records that Herbert immigrated to Australia in 1907. Herbert took up selection on a farm at Norwood/Lower Branch Creek in approximately 1909. In 1911 Herbert’s parents and two sisters immigrated from England to join him on the farm.

8 April 1919 married Dora BLAMIRE at St Thomas Church, Kendal Westmoreland, England. Dora travel to Australia to join Herbert as a war bride on a War Bride Ship, believe to be 1920. (War Bride reference Margaret Peterson Herbert’s daughter)
26 June 1919 returned to Aust “DEVANHA”.
On return to Australia Herbert returned to properties at Reid’s Creek and resumed farming. Herbert was among the first farmers to introduce peanut farming to the district, a crop that later became a standard for many farmers in the Branch Creek and Binjour area. Herbert’s properties were Glencoyne (encompassing Binjour View) and Crooked Gully.
After Herbert’s death the properties were sold and his surviving 5 sons chose to farm independently or other employment. Herbert’s second son Bert (RAAF) was killed in action in France in 1944. Herbert’s three daughters married and lived locally. His wife Dora settled in the Mundubbera township.
