KIRK, Archibald George

Enlisted at Maryborough 27/10/1916 age 33 years. His address, Hazelton, Wetheron. His next of kin (NOK), Father, Mr John Kirk, Eagle Junction. On enlistment he was 5ft 8, weighed 146 lbs and stated his occupation as a Grazier. He left Australia for service overseas.

 

On the 18/10/1918 he was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for “’On the 13/08/1918, near BRAY-Sur-SOMME this man’s company was heavily shelled and suffered many casualties. Private KIRK was the only stretcher bearer left unwounded.

 

He continued to work under very heavy shell fire, frequently dressing wounded and moving them single handed to cover. Throughout the day he showed great coolness and set a most excellent example of courage”. Returned to Australia and discharged 16/09/1919.
