Enlisted at Brisbane 28/03/1916 age 23 years. His next of kin, Father Mr Robert Aberdein of Gooroolba. On enlistment he was 5ft 8, weighed 150 lbs and stated his occupation as a Labourer. He was wounded 07/06/1917 with gunshot wound, right forearm. He returned to Australia discharged 05/01/1918.
